Case Review: Griffin Elan Holster

Griffin Elan Holster

Griffin Technology, as you may know is a successful Mac accessory manufacturer and was one of the first companies to put out an FM transmitter for the iPod, dubbed the iTrip. It was the first successful accessory for the original iPod. Now we have the iPhone, and Griffin is sticking to their reputation as one of the first companies to make accessories for the revolutionary device.

Griffin Elan Holster

The Elan Holster isn’t anything special, just a simple leather holster with a soft microfiber-type fabric inside to keep your iPhone protected when not in use. Included with the Holster is a removable leather belt clip so you can keep it in your pocket, or on your belt. Also included is a static screen protector, and a cleaning cloth to clean those grubby fingerprints off the screen.

Unlike the HipCase we reviewed previously, the Elan Holster covers all aspects of the device, including the corners. During our testing of the case, I didn’t try to put on the screen protector since it seemed rather cheap and just included for the heck of it. One downside to the Elan Holster is that the iPhone is prone to slipping out if the holster is held upside down, which is one thing we never liked about holster cases.

However, unless you are really into hostler cases, which most people aren’t, I would stay away from this product.

As was with the HipCase, we give this case a ‘Somewhat Recommended’ rating – it costs $29.99 and is available at Griffin’s website and Apple retail stores.

Final Verdict

Pros

  • Comes with cleaning cloth and screen protector.
  • Removable belt clip.
  • Padded leather exterior.

Cons

  • Prone to slipping out when held upside down.

Rating: Somewhat Recommended.
