Case Review: DLO HipCase for iPhone

The HipCase from DLO is a horizontal-style leather case for the iPhone designed to be clipped onto a belt clip for quick and easy access to the iPhone.
On the front of the case is a leather flap decorated with a simple embossed DLO logo. The flap is secured by Velcro, and on the inside is camel-colored leather with light brown stitching. Flip it around and on the back is a non-removable belt clip for attaching the case to a belt horizontally.
The dock connector is covered, so if you want to keep your iPhone in the HipCase on your desk - you won’t be able to sync or charge it without removing it from the case. However, the headphone port is accessible facing either left or right, and you will be able to control music and phone functions if using the included iPhone stereo headset or phone functions only when using a Bluetooth headset.

Corners of the HipCase are exposed which makes the iPhone prone to scratches unlike many other leather cases being manufactured for the device. Facing the iPhone backwards inside the case was better since the screen was no longer exposed in the cut-out under the leather flap. Plus, a downside to holster cases like this one - there is no protection when using the iPhone.
Overall, the HipCase was somewhat protective but the volume controls and ringer switch couldn’t be accessed without opening the flap. At a price of $35, other cases offer much more functionality; some at a cheaper price.
Pros
- Headphone port can be accessed easily.
- Easily accessible through leather flap.
Cons
- Corners are exposed and prone to dings.
- Non-removable belt clip for standalone use.
- Pricey.
Rating: Somewhat Recommended
